Web Design FAQ: Your Questions, Answered
| Thinking about a new website? Here are honest answers to the questions Central Florida business owners ask me most — pricing, process, SEO, AI search and what happens after launch. Don’t see yours? Book a free discovery call. |
1. Getting Started
-
Do I really need a website for my small business?
Yes. Most customers search online before they call, book or visit, and if they can’t find you they find a competitor. A professional website builds trust, shows up in Google and AI search results, and works for you 24/7 — and unlike a social media profile, you own it.
-
I already have a website. Should I redesign it or start over?
It depends on how the current site performs. If it’s slow, hard to update, not mobile-friendly, or isn’t bringing in inquiries, a rebuild is usually the better investment. Start with a free homepage review and I’ll tell you honestly whether it needs a refresh or a fresh start.
-
Isn’t a Facebook or Instagram page enough?
Social media is a great supporting channel, but it isn’t a replacement for a website. You don’t control the algorithm, your posts rarely appear in Google searches, and AI assistants like ChatGPT and Google’s AI Overviews pull answers mainly from websites. Your site is the home base your social profiles should point back to.
-
What types of businesses do you work with?
I work with small businesses, service providers, independent professionals and creatives across Central Florida — including real estate agents, therapists, insurance agents, contractors, vacation rentals, wellness practitioners and authors. If you serve local customers and want more calls, bookings or sales, we’re likely a good fit.
-
What do I need to have ready before I hire a web designer?
You don’t need to have everything figured out. It helps to know your main services, who your ideal customer is, and what you want visitors to do (call, book, buy). I send clear content prompts and checklists for text, photos and logos, so you’re never staring at a blank page.
-
How do I get started?
Book a free discovery call. We’ll talk about your business and goals, and I’ll recommend the right package. You’ll then receive a clear proposal and fixed quote — no commitment until you sign. Book your discovery call.

2. Pricing, Packages & Payment Plans
-
How much does a small business website cost in the Orlando area?
At OakByte Studio, custom WordPress websites start at $1,800 for a Standard Website. Design + Branding is $2,400 and Complete Launch is $3,200; a single landing page is $720. After a free discovery call you get a fixed quote, so the price you sign is the price you pay.
Package Pay in full Monthly plan Standard Website $1,800 $199/mo Design + Branding $2,400 $250/mo Complete Launch $3,200 $299/mo Landing Page $720 Pay in full only
-
Can I pay for my website monthly?
Yes. Any website package can be paid over 12 months instead of all at once — for example, a Standard Website is $199/month. Monthly plans also include Basic Maintenance and hosting, and your rate is locked at the price you signed up for.
-
What’s included in every website package?
Every build includes a custom mobile-first design, a WordPress + Astra build, 3 pages, a contact form, basic on-page SEO (page titles, meta descriptions, image alt text), Google Analytics and Google Search Console setup, and a Website Owner’s Guide. You also get a 30-day post-launch review window to catch any tweaks.
-
How does the monthly payment plan work?
You make a down payment to start, followed by 11 automatic monthly payments to the card on file. If you cancel before the 12 months are complete, the remaining balance of the website is due. [What happens after month 12 — continues as a care subscription or ends.]
-
What’s the difference between Standard, Design + Branding and Complete Launch?
Standard Website is for businesses that already have a logo and brand. Design + Branding adds a brand identity (logo, colors, typography) so your site and marketing look consistent. Complete Launch is the most complete package for businesses launching or relaunching who want everything done at once.
-
Are there any hidden or ongoing costs?
No hidden fees — everything is in your proposal. The ongoing costs to plan for are your domain name (usually $15–$25/year, paid to the registrar), hosting, and optional maintenance or a care plan. On a monthly plan, hosting and Basic Maintenance are already included.
-
How much does it cost to add pages or extra features?
Additional pages are $200 each. Popular add-ons include professional copywriting ($125/page or $350 for a full website), a Brand Launch Kit ($199), a Local SEO Sprint ($350 one-time), business card design ($150) and extra revision rounds ($75). Custom work outside a package is $125/hour or a negotiated fixed price.
-
Do you write the content for my website?
You can provide your own text, and I’ll guide you with content prompts. If you’d rather not write it, professional copywriting is available as an add-on: $125 per page, $350 for a full website, or $199 for a landing page — written to be clear for customers and optimized for search.
-
Why not just use a cheap template or a $500 designer?
A cheap site often costs more later: slow load times, poor mobile design, no SEO foundation, and a rebuild within a year or two. You’re paying for strategy, a site built to turn visitors into customers, proper search setup, and a designer you can reach when something needs to change.

3. Process & Timeline
-
How long does it take to build a small business website?
Most small business websites take about 3–4 weeks from kickoff to launch. The biggest factor is how quickly content and feedback come in; a single landing page is faster, and larger sites or online stores take longer.
-
Can I see my website before it goes live?
Yes. Your site is built on a private staging link that only you and I can see. You review it on your phone and computer, request changes, and approve it before anything goes public.
-
What is your web design process?
It’s four clear steps:
- Free discovery call — your goals, customers and style.
- Proposal and contract — a fixed quote and timeline.
- Build and review — I build on a private staging site and you review it.
- Launch and guide — the site goes live and you get your Owner’s Guide and training.
-
What happens after my website launches?
You receive a Website Owner’s Guide and a walkthrough so you can make simple updates yourself. There’s a 30-day post-launch review window for tweaks, and you can add a maintenance or care plan to keep the site secure and up to date.
-
What happens on the free discovery call?
We talk about your business, your ideal customers, what your current site (if any) is or isn’t doing, and what success looks like. I’ll recommend the right package and platform. There’s no pressure and no commitment — you’ll leave with clarity either way.
-
Do we meet in person or online?
Both work. I’m based in Oakland, FL, and meet Central Florida clients at their business or a local spot, or by video call — whichever is easier for you. Clients outside the area work with me fully online.
-
How involved do I need to be?
Plan for a few short check-ins: the discovery call, sending your content and photos, and reviewing the design. I handle the technical work. Projects move fastest when feedback comes back within a few days.

4. Platforms, Ownership & Hosting
-
Which platform do you build websites on?
Most OakByte sites are built on WordPress with the lightweight, fast Astra framework. For online stores or specific booking workflows, I also build on Shopify or Wix when that’s the better fit. I’ll recommend the right platform on our discovery call based on your goals, not a one-size-fits-all rule.
-
Do I own my website and domain?
Yes. Your domain should always be registered in your name, and once your website is paid in full, the site and its content are yours. [Confirm wording against your contract.] You’re never locked into working with me to keep your site.
-
WordPress vs. Wix vs. Shopify — which is best for a small business?
WordPress is usually the best long-term choice for service businesses: full ownership, strong SEO control and room to grow. Shopify is best for product-based online stores. Wix suits very simple sites where the owner wants an all-in-one builder, but it offers less flexibility as you scale.
-
Do you provide hosting?
Yes. Hosting is included in every monthly website plan. [For pay-in-full clients: hosting option and price, or setup on the client’s own hosting account.] Either way, I set it up for you so you don’t have to deal with the technical side.
-
Will my website work on phones and tablets?
Yes. Every site is designed mobile-first, then tested on phones, tablets and desktops before launch. Most of your visitors will arrive on a phone, so that’s where the design starts.
-
Can you help me get a domain name and business email?
Yes. I can help you choose and register a domain that matches your business and connect a professional email address (like hello@yourbusiness.com). The domain is registered in your name so you always control it.

5. SEO, Local SEO & AI Search
-
Is SEO included with my website?
Yes, every website includes basic on-page SEO: optimized page titles, meta descriptions, image alt text, clean page structure, and Google Analytics and Search Console setup. Ongoing SEO — the work that helps you climb rankings over time — is available through the SEO + GEO retainer.
-
What is GEO or AEO, and do I need it?
GEO (generative engine optimization) and AEO (answer engine optimization) help your business get mentioned in AI answers from tools like ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Perplexity. More customers now ask AI for recommendations, so being clearly described and structured online matters as much as ranking in classic search.
-
How long until my website shows up on Google?
Google can index a new site within days to a few weeks, but ranking well for competitive searches usually takes 3–6 months of consistent SEO work. Local searches with your city name and a well-optimized Google Business Profile often show results sooner.
-
How do I get my business recommended by ChatGPT and other AI tools?
AI tools recommend businesses they can clearly understand and verify. That means a well-structured website, schema markup (LocalBusiness, Service, FAQPage), an llms.txt file, a complete Google Business Profile, consistent listings across directories, and pages that answer real customer questions directly — like this one.
-
What is local SEO, and why does it matter for my business?
Local SEO helps your business appear when nearby customers search, like “web designer near me” or “plumber in Winter Garden.” It covers your Google Business Profile, local citations (directory listings), location-focused content and reviews. For businesses that serve a specific area, it’s often the fastest path to more calls.
-
Do you optimize Google Business Profiles?
Yes. My SEO + GEO service includes a Google Business Profile audit, a one-time full optimization and a monthly accuracy check. Posting and review management are not included, but I’ll show you how to handle them.
-
What’s included in your SEO + GEO retainer?
The SEO + GEO retainer is $175/month with a 3-month minimum, then month-to-month. It includes Google Business Profile optimization, on-page SEO updates, schema and AI-search setup, local citation building, tracking of 10–20 keywords and a monthly report in your client portal. Bundles with a care plan start at $235/month.
-
Can you guarantee first-page rankings on Google?
No — and you should be cautious of anyone who does. Google controls its rankings, and no honest SEO professional can guarantee a position. What I guarantee is proven best practices, transparent monthly reporting and steady work on the factors that move local rankings.

6. Website Maintenance & Care Plans
-
Does my website need maintenance after it launches?
Yes. WordPress, its plugins and themes release regular updates for security and performance. Without them, sites slow down, break or become vulnerable to hacking. Maintenance keeps your site fast, secure and working the way it did on launch day.
-
What’s the difference between the Standard and Premium Care Plans?
Standard Care Premium Care Price $175/mo $325/mo Content updates 2 per month 5 per month Response time 72 hours 24 hours Basic Maintenance, monthly analytics report, light design tweaks Included Included
-
What does website maintenance include?
Basic Maintenance covers the technical upkeep: WordPress core and plugin updates, uptime monitoring, a monthly full-site backup, a monthly PageSpeed scan, a security check and a broken-link check. It’s included in every monthly website plan.
-
Can I cancel my maintenance or care plan?
Care plans are month-to-month [confirm]. Bundles that include SEO + GEO have a 3-month minimum, then continue month-to-month. If you’re on a monthly website payment plan, the remaining website balance is due if you cancel early.
-
How much does website maintenance cost?
Basic Maintenance is included with monthly website plans. Care Plans, which add content updates for you, are $175/month (Standard) or $325/month (Premium). Bundles that combine a care plan with SEO + GEO start at $235/month.
-
Do you maintain websites you didn’t build?
Yes, if the site is on WordPress and in good working order [confirm you offer this]. I’ll do a quick review first to make sure it can be maintained safely; if it needs repairs, I’ll tell you what and why before we start.

7. E-Commerce & Online Stores
-
Do you build online stores?
Yes. I build online stores on Shopify and WooCommerce (WordPress) for small businesses selling physical products, digital products or services. Each store is set up to be easy to manage, mobile-friendly and ready to take payments from day one.
-
Can you add my products and set up payments and shipping?
Yes. Product entry is $100 per 10 products (or $100 per 100 products for bulk uploads from a spreadsheet). Payment and shipping setup runs $300–$800 depending on carriers, tax rules and payment providers.
-
How much does an e-commerce website cost?
Online stores are priced by size and complexity:
Store tier Platform Typical scope Price Starter / MVP Shopify 1–15 products $1,500–$3,000 Growth / Standard Shopify or WooCommerce Up to 50 products with variations $3,500–$6,500 Advanced / Custom WooCommerce custom or Shopify Plus Wholesale, bundles, subscriptions, ERP sync $7,000–$15,000
-
Can you set up email marketing for my store?
Yes. Email marketing automation ($500–$1,200) includes the flows that recover sales automatically: a welcome series, abandoned-cart reminders and post-purchase review requests.
-
Shopify or WooCommerce — which should I choose?
Shopify is the easiest all-in-one option for most small stores: hosting, security and checkout are handled for you. WooCommerce is best if you want your store and content on one WordPress site with full control and no platform transaction fees. I’ll recommend one based on your products and how you sell.

8. Choosing the Right Web Designer
-
How do I choose the right web designer for my small business?
Look for five things: a portfolio of sites you’d be proud to own, real client reviews, clear fixed pricing, a defined process with timelines, and a plan for SEO and maintenance after launch. Just as important, choose someone who listens to your goals and explains things in plain language.
-
What are the red flags when hiring a web designer?
Watch for guaranteed #1 Google rankings, vague quotes without a written scope, no contract, a domain registered in the designer’s name, no portfolio or reviews, and no plan for updates after launch. Also be wary of “finished in 48 hours” promises with no discovery or strategy.
-
What questions should I ask a web designer before hiring them?
Ask: Who will build my site? What’s included in the price, and what costs extra? How long will it take? Will I own my site and domain? Is SEO included? What happens after launch if something breaks? Can I update it myself? A good designer answers each one clearly and in writing.
-
Why choose OakByte Studio?
You work directly with me, Viviane Trindade-Navarro, from first call to launch — no junior designers or outsourcing. Every site is strategy-first, mobile-first and SEO-ready, with transparent fixed pricing and monthly payment options. I’m HubSpot SEO certified, hold a Google AI Professional Certificate, work in English and Portuguese, and I’m a member of the West Orange Chamber of Commerce.
-
Should I hire a freelance web designer or an agency?
An agency suits large companies needing big teams and ad campaigns. A dedicated designer is usually a better fit for small businesses: you get direct communication, lower overhead costs, and one person who knows your business. OakByte focuses on the website as the core product, not on selling you a marketing package.
-
Who will I actually be working with?
Me. OakByte Studio is a solo studio, so the person on your discovery call is the same person designing, building and supporting your site. You’ll get clear timelines, dependable updates and a client portal where your files, invoices and reports live in one place.
-
Can I see examples of your work and client reviews?
Yes. See recent projects on the Portfolio page and read 5-star client reviews on Google. OakByte Studio was also featured on Orlando Voyager.

That makes OakByte Studio a natural fit for Central Florida’s Brazilian and Portuguese-speaking business community. Atendimento em português, do primeiro contato ao lançamento.

What areas do you serve?
